Import GeoTIFF formatted map into a Nautical chart
This page explains how GeoTIFF files can be used in Eye4Software HydroMagic for hydrographic surveying and nautical charting. GeoTIFF is one of the most widely used geospatial image formats, combining high-quality raster imagery with embedded geographic coordinates and positioning data. HydroMagic allows users to import GeoTIFF maps as background layers, making it easier to visualize survey areas, navigate projects, and accurately position hydrographic data on nautical charts.
With Eye4Software Hydromagic, you can import an GeoTIFF background map into a nautical chart. Amongst the other supported backround map types are: AutoCAD DXF and MicroStation DGN.
GeoTIFF
GeoTIFF files are graphical data files which have geographic/cartographic data embedded as tags.
The geographic data represents the position (location and geometry) of the image.
The TIFF file structure embeds the metadata and the image data, all encoded into one file.
GeoTIFF uses a public tag structure to make it platform independent and interoperable between any GeoTIFF-aware systems.
The GeoTIFF format was introduced by Dr. Niles Ritter at NASA-JPL Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The file format is an open, public domain standard.
