How to use a COM port based modem on a system with no COM port

If your computer does not have a COM port interface but a USB port instead, ActiveXperts recommends the FTDI USB-Serial adapter to connect the modem to one of the USB ports on your computer. This 'FTDI UC232R' adapter is fast and reliable, and comes with drivers for all 32- and 64-bit supported Windows operating systems.

How to use a COM port based modem on a system with no COM and no USB port

For virtual hosting solutions (Microsoft Hyper-V, Vmware), you may not have exclusive access to your serial- or USB port(s). In this case, you can use a TCP/IP-Serial adapter. We recommend the 'Digi One SP'. This adapter is also used in situations where you want to place the modem on a different location, for instance because of electrical interference.
